2023 Census Will Gulp N400bn – NPC

The National Population Commission has said the 2023 census exercise will cost more than four hundred billion naira.

This was disclosed on Monday by the Head of NPC Public Affairs Department in Plateau State, Jick Lawrence at a one-day capacity-building workshop for journalists on effective reporting of census in Jos.

According to Lawrence, about a hundred billion naira had so far been spent on preparation ahead of the April exercise.

He said:

“Over N400 billion has been earmarked to be expended on the 2023 census. About N100 billion has so far been expended on preparations ahead of the exercise, census is a very big and capital-intensive exercise.”

However, he explained that the funds would be channelled to the empowerment of about 1.5 million Nigerians.

On the transportation aspect, Lawrence disclosed fifty-six thousand vehicles would be rented for the movement of personnel and logistics.

He also added that about eight hundred thousand Personal Digital Assistants would be procured.
