The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it has fixed a date to release the final lists of presidential and governorship candidates for the 2023 general elections.
The Chairman of INEC, Prof Mahmood Yakubu announced the dates in Abuja on Thursday.
Yakubu noted this while speaking at a meeting organised by the Centre for Democracy and Development in Abuja tagged; “Conducting Nigeria’s 2023 Elections in Volatile Security Environment.”

According to Yakubu, the final list of the presidential candidates contesting in the 2023 race would be released on the 20th of September.
While the list of governorship candidates would be released on the 4th of October.
Yakubu further took urged political parties and their candidates to focus on issue-based campaigns ahead of the 2023 general elections.
The INEC Chairman added that the electoral body will work with security agencies to ensure a peaceful election.
So far, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party flagbearer, Peter Obi, New Nigeria Peoples Party presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso and several others have declared interest to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari at the end of his tenure in 2023.
