2023: Pondi The Most Functional Lawmaker Since 1999 – Orubebe

A former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Elder Godsday Orubebe, has scored the lawmaker representing Burutu Federal Constituency highly on his performance.

According to the Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Pondi has outperformed all his contemporaries across Ijaw Nation since the advent of democracy.

Orubebe stated this when the lawmaker paid him a consultative visit at his country home in Ogbogbagbene, on Saturday.

Pondi had sought the blessing of the former minister after presenting his scorecard for his first two tenures of quality representation.

Expressing satisfaction with the lawmaker’s input towards attracting adequate dividends of democracy, Orubebe said;

“In all these years, there are some people that are in the national assembly that have never stood up to make one statement, but they keep electing them.

“And I want to tell all of you seated here today that from 1999 till date, there is no House of Reps member in Ijaw land that is as functional like himself (Pondi).

“Representation is what you do in the House. How you network in the House. How you speak and people listen to you. I’ve never seen his type. We have had them all over the place before, he is the most functional.

Ahead the 2023 election, Orubebe assured the lawmaker of his unalloyed support, promising to canvass the support of other leaders in the Constituency.

“I’m going to discuss with other Burutu leaders. What is worth doing is worth doing well. I’m giving a directive to everyone who believe in me that this (Pondi) is the man we will vote for.

Orubebe also added that the needed support for Pondi to emerge a principal officer in the 9th assembly, including becoming the Speaker of the House, would be given.

“If peradventure the next president comes from the North, we’re going to sponsor you to become the next Speaker of the House of Representatives,” he added
