The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has dismissed reports suggesting that its 2023 presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, may dump the party to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party described such speculation as “politically motivated falsehoods” aimed at destabilising the opposition and misleading Nigerians about the party’s internal cohesion.

Speaking on the development, Prince Nweze Onu, the NNPP’s National Vice Chairman (South-East), firmly stated that Senator Kwankwaso remains the party’s national leader and will contest the 2027 presidential election under its platform.

“Kwankwaso is not going anywhere; he remains our leader and our candidate for 2027,” Prince Onu said, alleging that the fake news originated from artificial intelligence tools and coordinated online propaganda.

According to him, “These rumours are being peddled by mischief-makers who are desperate to sow disunity within our ranks, but they will fail. Our party is more united than ever behind Senator Kwankwaso.”

Also reacting, Alhaji Hashimu Dungurawa, NNPP Chairman in Kano State, dismissed the reports as unfounded and baseless. He said the former Governor of Kano State has no reason to abandon the party he built and has no plans of joining the APC.

Dungurawa accused detractors of deliberately spreading such misinformation to distract the party and mislead Nigerians ahead of the 2027 race.

In his words, “Spreading these lies is just a tactic to weaken NNPP ahead of the next election. But they have failed already. We are reorganising, we are getting stronger, and we are fully behind our leader.”

He stressed that Kwankwaso’s political structure remains intact nationwide and will pose a serious challenge to any party in the next general election.
