Commissioner of Police Adebowale Lawal confirmed the arrest in a statement released on Sunday.
“It is truly heartbreaking to witness a life cut short over a domestic disagreement. Our officers responded swiftly, and the suspect is now in custody as we pursue justice,” Lawal stated.
According to him, the case was reported on June 27, 2025, around 8 pm, by one Gabriel Michael, who notified the authorities about the fatal altercation between the two siblings.
Following his arrest by personnel attached to the Idanre Division, Gabriel Pius was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Akure for further investigation. Lawal confirmed that the suspect would be prosecuted once the investigation is concluded.
In a separate development, the Commissioner of Police also revealed the arrest of a notorious four-man armed robbery gang believed to be responsible for a string of violent robberies and vehicle thefts across Akure, Owo, Ondo, and neighboring areas.
The breakthrough came after a robbery incident in Akure on June 27, which led to the deployment of the Tactical Intelligence and Response Squad. Two members of the gang were initially tracked down and arrested outside Ondo State, which then led to the apprehension of two accomplices, including a known receiver of stolen goods.
“Preliminary findings indicate that this group is linked to a broader network specialising in vehicle snatching and illegal trafficking,” Lawal noted.
The police recovered a stolen vehicle and several mobile phones from the suspects. Lawal added that efforts are ongoing to retrieve more stolen property and apprehend additional suspects, including an alleged arms supplier suspected to be a key figure in the criminal network.
