3 Nigerians Make 2023 Richest Black People in The World List

Three Nigerians have been listed among the 2023 Richest Black People in the World.

Aliko Dangote, Mike Adenuga, and Abdulsamad Rabiu were all listed among other prestigious black people across the globe.

Dangote maintains his place as the richest black man with $10 billion. Adenuga recorded $3.6 billion, while Rabiu stood at $5.56 billion to make the list.

Other notable global faces on the list include rapper Jay-z, Rihanna, Oprah Winfrey, and Tyler Perry among others.

2023 Richest Black People in The World List

1. Aliko Dangote ($10.8 billion)

The founder and chairman of Dangote Cement, the continent’s biggest cement manufacturer is the richest man in Africa.

Through a holding company, Dangote owns 85% of the publicly traded Dangote Cement.

With operations in 10 African nations, Dangote Cement can produce 48.6 million metric tons annually.

The Nigerian fertilizer plant owned by Dangote started producing fertilizer in March 2022 after many years of construction.

The Dangote Refinery, which has been under construction in Lagos since 2016, will likely be one of the biggest oil refineries in the world when it is finished.

2. Mike Adenuga ($3.6 billion)

Adenuga, now the second-richest man in Nigeria, made his fortune in the oil and telecommunications industries.

With 55 million subscribers, his mobile phone provider, Globacom, is the third largest in Nigeria.

Six oil blocks are operated by his company, Conoil Producing, in the Niger Delta.

At the age of 26, Adenuga made his first million dollars by selling lace and distributing soft drinks.

3. Abdulsamad Rabiu ($5.56 billion)

A Nigerian conglomerate involved in real estate, sugar refining, and cement production, BUA Group was founded by Abdulsamad Rabiu.

Rabiu combined his privately held Obu Cement business with publicly traded Cement Co at the beginning of January 2020 which was under his control.

Rabiu owns 98.2 percent of the combined company, which is listed as BUA Cement Plc on the Nigerian stock exchange.

In 1988, Rabiu founded his own company and began importing iron, steel, and chemicals.

4. Theodore F. Smith ($8 billion)

Donald F. Vista Equity Partners was founded in 2000 by Smith.

It only concentrates on making investments in software firms.

Vista, one of the top private equity firms, has $96 billion in assets and has experienced annualized returns of 31% since its founding.

5. David Steward ($7.6 billion)

The chairman and founder of the IT company World Wide Technology is David Steward.

Early on, Steward occasionally went without receiving a paycheck and once witnessed the repossession of his car from the office parking lot.

He now holds a majority stake in the $14.15 billion (sales) business, whose clients include Citi, Verizon, and the government.

6. Jay Z($2.15 billion)

With a $2.15 billion net worth, Jay-Z Fashion behemoth LVMH acquired a 50% stake in Jayz’s Armand de Brignac, also known as Ace of Spades, champagne company in 2021.

In February 2023, Jay-Z agreed to sell Bacardi the majority of his ownership in the cognac company D’Usse.

His other assets include a fine art collection that includes works by Jean-Michel Basquiat, his music library, and stock in businesses like Block and Uber.

7. Oprah Winfrey ($2.5 billion)

More than $2 billion in earnings are reportedly derived from her 25-year TV show as well as projects like The Color Purple, Beloved, and Selma, which her Harpo Productions co-produced.

The cable channel OWN was introduced by Winfrey in 2011. Though she now owns less of the company, Winfrey purchased a 10% stake in it in 2015.

She owns a large number of properties in Hawaii as well as houses in Nashville, and California.

8. A. P. MOTSEPE ($2.3 billion)

The first black African to appear on the Forbes list of billionaires, Patrice Motsepe is the founder and chairman of African Rainbow Minerals.

In 2008, he attained this status.

9. Michael Jordan ($2 billion)

Michael Jordan, who is regarded by many as the best player in NBA history, won six championships with the Chicago Bulls.

Despite making $90 million in salary for his career, he has made $1.08 billion (pre-tax) from endorsement deals with companies like Nike, Hanes, and Gatorade.

10. Strive MASIYIWA’s ($1.08 billion)

In 1998, Masiyiwa launched the mobile phone network Econet Wireless Zimbabwe in his native Zimbabwe despite persistent government opposition.

11. Alexander Karp, worth $1.08 billion

Co-founder and CEO of data mining company Palantir Technologies, Alex Karp received early support from the CIA’s investment arm In-Q-Tel.

The business performs contract work for governmental organizations like the FBI, the Danish National Police, and the Department of Defense.

12. Rihanna ($1.4 billion)

The popularity of her cosmetics brand Fenty Beauty has made Rihanna a billionaire.

The cosmetics business, which she co-owns with French luxury retailer LVMH, saw a revenue increase of twofold in 2022.

Additionally, she owns a 30% share of the Savage x Fenty lingerie collection, which raised capital in February 2021 with a $1 billion valuation.

13. Michael Lee-Chin ($1.04 billion each)

Investments in financial institutions like National Commercial Bank Jamaica and AIC Limited brought Michael Lee-Chin great wealth.

When AIC had less than $1 million in assets under management in 1987, the native of Jamaica purchased it.

His current significant source of wealth is his valuable 60 percent ownership of National Commercial Bank Jamaica.

14. Muhammad Ibrahim is worth $1.22 billion

One of the first mobile phone companies serving Africa and the Middle East was Celtel International, founded in 1998 by Mohammed “Mo” Ibrahim.

He earned $1.4 billion from the sale of Celtel to Kuwait’s Mobile Telecommunications Company in 2005 for $3.4 billion.

Ibrahim also serves as the chairman of the board of Satya Capital, a private equity company that makes investments in healthcare, education, and business ventures in Africa.

15. Tiger Woods ($1 billion)

During his professional golf career, Woods has made about $1.8 billion in earnings, including a PGA Tour record $121 million in prize money.

After LeBron James, he became only the second active athlete to receive the Forbes Billionaire certification in 2022.

Despite reportedly rejecting a “mind-blowingly enormous” offer from the fledgling LIV Golf tour, a deal that LIV CEO Greg Norman told the Washington Post would have been in the “high nine digits,” Woods managed to reach that elite level. ”

In 2022, Woods and fellow golfer Rory McIlroy announced that they had founded TMRW Sports, a tech-focused company with plans to introduce the TGL, a new golf league.

Along with British billionaire Joe Lewis and singer Justin Timberlake, the superstar is a partner in the opulent real estate company Nexxus.

16. LeBron James($1 billion)

James is the first NBA player still playing today to reach the $1 billion mark, according to a June 2022 estimate by Forbes.

From his time with the Cavaliers, Miami Heat, and his current team, the Los Angeles Lakers, James is said to have made more than $430 million in pretax salary.

Forbes estimates that his earnings from business ventures and endorsement agreements with companies like PepsiCo, Walmart, and Nike have reached $900 million (pretax).

He owns stock in the companies he works with, such as Beats by Dr. Dre and the quickly expanding Blaze Pizza chain.

17. Tyler Perry($1 billion)

Tyler Perry is a director, actor, producer, and writer best known for his “Madea” film series, which has brought in more than $660 million.

In addition to his royalty as a producer, Perry also has a library of works that dates back to the early 1990s; he fully owns all of the content he has produced.

A 330-acre property in Atlanta with 12 sound stages and custom sets, including a to-scale White House, was established as Tyler Perry Studios by the filmmaker in 2019.

After working for Oprah Winfrey’s OWN for seven years, Perry signed a deal with Viacom in 2019 to receive a 25% stake in the streaming service BET+.

With Amazon Prime, he now has a lucrative deal for four movies.
