FIFA Club World Cup: Havertz Breaks Messi’s 11-Year Record After Goal Against Palmeiras

Chelsea forward, Kai Havertz has smashed Lionel Messi’s 11-year record following his goal at the Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi in the final of the FIFA Club World Cup on Saturday.

The clash saw the former Bayern Leverkusen man net Chelsea’s winning goal against Palmerais after a 1-1 tie at the end of the 90 minutes.

Meanwhile, the 27-year-old has also found the winner for Chelsea in the 2020/2021 UEFA Champions League final tie against Manchester City.

The ex-Barcelona ace, Messi had previously set a record of becoming the last player to score in the finals of both the Champions League and FIFA Club World Cup in 2011.

The Argentine superstar was on target as Barcelona humiliated Manchester United in a 3-1 victory at Wembley Stadium, London, on the 28th of May, 2011.

The 7x Ballon d’Or winner scored again as he bagged a brace in Blaugrana’s thumping 4-0 win over Santos from Brazilian league.

Until Havertz shattered the record yesterday, no other player had netted in a combination of the Champions League and Club World Cup finals in over a decade.
