7 Dangote Cement Factory Worker Killed, Scores Injured in Kogi

An attack by no fewer than 500
armed members of the Kogi State Vigilantes at Dangote Cement factory, had left killed seven workers dead in Obajana, Kogi State.

The tragedy which occurred
in the early hours of Wednesday, equally left several others injured.

However, members of the Mining and Host Communities have blamed the Kogi State Government led by Yahaya Bello for the incident.

To them, the incident was caused by an extra-judicial and unlawful deployment of the Vigilantes in the Obajana community.

The group was led by the state Director-General of Lands; Commissioner for Solid Minerals, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security, Commodore Jerry Omodara(rtd), Chairman of Kabba/Bunnu LGA, Chairman of Ijumu LGA and the State ALGON Chairman, Alh. Taofeek; Senior Special Assistant on Job Creation, Mr Dele Iselewa and Chairman of Lokoja LGA, Alh. Mohammed Dansabe.

The vigilante group members were wielding arms of different kinds including local and assorted rifles as residents and passersby scampered for safety.

It noted some seven staff of the cement company were being attended to at the hospitals over the gunshot wounds inflicted on them.

Meanwhile, a source revealed that most of the vigilante men were drawn from state vigilantes, and hunters who have been working for the state government.

The spokesman for Oyo Mining Host Community, Mr. David Oloruntoba, described the act as primitive and disgraceful.

Further defending the youths of the community, he added that they can never be used or get involved in such “evil practices.”
