Police Begin Investigation as Borno Commissioner Dies of 'Poisoning' | Daily Report Nigeria

The Borno State Police Command has commenced investigation following the death of the state’s Commissioner for Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, and Resettlement, Ibrahim Idriss Garba.

Daily Report Nigeria reports that Garba died on Saturday under mysterious circumstances at his guest house at the 777 Housing Estate in Maiduguri, the state capital.

The commissioner who died in his sleep is suspected to have been poisoned.

Aside the police investigation, a laboratory examination is also ongoing at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.

Confirming the development, the spokesperson to the Governor Babagana Zulum, Isa Gusau, said the State Police Commissioner was at the house at which the Commissioner died in Maiduguri on Saturday.

He described the news as a “shock and profound grief.”

The late Ibrahim Idriss Garba was Special Adviser on Special Projects to the Governor before he was elevated and appointed as Commissioner at the commencement of second term of Professor Zulum.
