Osimhen emerged the highest ever ranked Nigerian footballer at the awards with an 8th place finish.

On her part, Oshoala finished 20th and became the first African woman ever to be ranked at the awards.

“Asisat Oshoala’s 20th place ranking in the 2023 Women’s Ballon d’Or is a historic and significant achievement for Africa.

“She’s a talented footballer and deserves the recognition. “Congratulations @AsisatOshoala,” it said.

Aside Osimhen and Oshoala, Afrobeats star, Rema also made history at the 2023 Ballon D’or ceremony in Paris.

The multiple award-winning star stole the spotlight with a show-stopping performance that left a lasting impression on all in attendance.

Rema graced the stage with a mesmerizing rendition of his chart-topping track, “Calm Down,” leaving the football stars in the audience captivated by his performance.

Rema’s appearance marked a historic moment as he became the very first Afrobeats artist to perform at the prestigious Ballon d’Or awards, underscoring the incredible success he has achieved in the year 2023.

The much coveted prize was won by Argentine captain, Lionel Messi, who overcame tough competition from Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe.

While Haaland guided Manchester City to the treble last season, Mbappe shouldered the responsibility of leading France to a second consecutive World Cup final and narrowly lost to Messi and Argentina on penalties.
