There is palpable tension as the land dispute between Ijaws and Binis in Edo State rekindled last week Thursday.

Daily Report Nigeria reports that several persons were left injured between Thursday December 21 and Sunday December 24, 2023.

Speaking to newsmen on Monday, Comr Ebiwana Sam, Chairman Ijaw Youths Council, Olodiama Clan, said the latest incident was as a result of an attack on Ijaws of Ikoro community by Bini settlers of Agbomoba, who are tenants of Ikoro.

Ebiwana noted that the “land dispute between Ijaws and the Beni people in Edo state has escalated to a communal crisis.”

“The latest crisis is as a result of the persistent disturbance of the peaceful livelihood of Ijaws by the Binis,” he explained.

Ebiwana, who drew the attention of the Edo State Government and the entire Ijaw nation to be aware of the rekindle crisis, stressed that “IKORO COMMUNITY, the Traditional Headquarter of OLODIAMA Clan is not ready to leave an inch of their land to anybody, particularly the Binis for any reason.”
