Buhari Approved Cash Withdrawal Limits Policy

Governor of the Central bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, has responded to debates following the launching of cash withdrawal limits.

According to the CBN boss, President Muhammadu Buhari approved the recently initiated policy that limits cash withdrawal for Nigerians.

Emefiele stated this in Daura, Katsina State on Thursday after the House of Representatives ordered the apex bank to halt the policy’s implementation.

He said:

The president said we should carry on with our work, no need to fear, no need to bother anybody.”

Further defending the bank’s decision, Emefiele insisted that numerous electronic channels have been established to support cashless transactions in the nation.

The recent move, according to him, was necessary to actualise the overdue call for a cashless policy. The was repeatedly abandoned since 2012 due to a lack of suitable payment infrastructure in the nation.
