Super Eagles defender William Troost-Ekong is set to undergo minor surgery in Finland this week to address an injury he sustained during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Troost-Ekong suffered the injury during Nigeria’s second group-stage match against hosts Cote d’Ivoire. Despite the setback, he managed to score the winning goal for the Super Eagles from the penalty spot in that game.
Following the injury, the 30-year-old missed the subsequent match against Guinea-Bissau. However, he displayed remarkable resilience by playing every minute of Nigeria’s remaining games in the tournament.
