New Insights Emerge on NFF’s Split with Jose Peseiro.
Jose Peseiro’s departure from his role as head coach of the Super Eagles has shed light on the negotiations between him and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). Peseiro officially announced his exit on Friday, coinciding with the end of his contract on February 29.
Reports from SCORENigeria indicate that while the NFF expressed interest in retaining the 63-year-old coach, the discussions for a new contract hit a snag due to conflicting terms.

The NFF proposed maintaining Peseiro’s salary at $50,000 per month, but the Portuguese coach insisted on a significant increase, demanding a record monthly pay of $120,000 to continue in the role.
“He asked for $120,000 a month salary, but the NFF offered to pay him his current salary of $50,000 instead,” an NFF official informed SCORENigeria.
“That was where negotiations broke down.”
Peseiro took charge of the Super Eagles in May 2022, leading the team to a commendable second-place finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
During his tenure, the team’s performance saw them win 11 matches, draw four, and lose seven out of 22 games.
