Senators, on Tuesday, experienced power failure from the Abuja Electricity Distribution PLC.

The lawmakers endured a partial blackout while they waited for the restoration of power.

After a few minutes, the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio started the plenary session when power was finally restored.

In February, the Abuja Electricity Distribution PLC threatened to cut off electricity supply to 86 Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) due to a total debt of N47.1bn.

Some of the affected MDAs included the Ministry of Finance, Information, Budget, Works and Housing, barracks, Nigeria Police Force (NPC), Presidential Villa, and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor.

Others were the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), and state liaison offices in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The situation has elicited mixed reactions from Nigerians who are disappointed with the country’s power supply.

One said: “Una go wait tire…”

Another said: “There was a country..😎.”

Joy Micha said: “Oh my goodness 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣.”

A social media user said:

“Till today, whenever light comes, people shout ‘up Nepa’ after 64 years of independence.”

Rachel said: “Let them enjoy the darkness that common man enjoy.”

“John Koko said: “What about the money they budgeted for gen and maintenance? And you want foreign investment?”

Enai Joel said: “These people are deceiving themselves, where is money allocated for fuel and generator maintenance?”
