The Senate has sought justice for the 16 soldiers who suffered a brutal attack by some youths during a peacekeeping mission in Delta State.

On Thursday, March 14, 2024, community youths surrounded and mercilessly killed a commanding officer, two majors, one captain, and 12 soldiers.

The soldiers were part of the troop deployment aimed at restoring order between the feuding Okuama and Okoloba communities in Delta.

The assailants subjected many of the fallen soldiers to gruesome acts, including beheading and dismemberment.

Fourteen bodies were recovered and brought to the jetty of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in Bomadi, the administrative hub of Bomadi Local Government Area.

The Senate’s Committee on Army, led by Senator AbdulAziz Yar’Adua (APC Katsina Central), condemned the massacre and extends condolences to the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Christopher Musa, and the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Taoreed Lagbaja.

The Senate pledged its unwavering support for comprehensive investigations and legal actions to ensure that the perpetrators are held accountable for their actions.

In solidarity with the Defense Headquarters and the Army, the Senate revealed, it is committed to pursuing justice for the fallen heroes and supporting all necessary investigations and legal processes.
