The Deputy Governor of Edo State in Nigeria, Philip Shaibu has been impeached by the State Assembly over allegations of misconduct.

A panel of seven people was set up to investigate the allegations, and they concluded that Shaibu was guilty.

The panel had allowed Shaibu to defend himself, but he failed to show up.

Shaibu’s lawyer also withdrew from the case after he was denied a request to suspend the proceedings.

The Edo State House of Assembly, which brought the case against Shaibu, accused him of leaking confidential information in an affidavit he filed in support of a separate case he had filed in Abuja.

It argued that Shaibu violated the Oath of Secrecy he took and acted contrary to the provisions of Schedule 7 of the 1999 Constitution.

On Friday, the assembly’s legal officer appeared with two others, and the Assembly adopted the report of the panel, which recommended Shaibu’s impeachment.

Stay tuned for more details…
