The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested about 20 women over alleged involvement in what can be linked to “immoral acts” in the state.
The arrest was confirmed by the Commandant of the Kano State Hisbah Board, Dr Haruna Ibn-Sina, in a released statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Board, Mallam Lawal Ibrahim, on Wednesday, January 20.
The suspects were apprehended on Tuesday, January 19, at the Nasarawa Park and Green Resturant while consuming alcohol along the Ahmadu Bello Way.

According to the released statement, the arrest was necessary in lieu of directives meted out by the State Government on the prohibition of activities of event centres and viewings across the state, due to the surge in COVID-19 cases in the state.
The statement reads in part;
“All the 19 suspects are females and aged above 20.
“Eighteen of the suspects are first-time offenders, while the remaining one had once been arrested.”
However, those among the suspects who were first time offenders were handed over to their respective families with warnings, while the remaining ones are to be thoroughly advised.
