The House of Representatives has issued a 14-day ultimatum to five major cement manufacturers in Nigeria – Dangote Cement, Bua Cement, Lafarge Cement, Asaka Cement, and Eagle Cement to appear before its joint committee and provide explanations for the recent arbitrary increase in cement prices.
The directive was given by Rep Gaza Gbefwi, Chairman of the House Committee on Solid Minerals, during a public hearing on Tuesday in Abuja.
Tuesday’s hearing was organized by the House Joint Committees on Commerce, Industry, Special Duties, and Solid Minerals to investigate the sudden price hike by cement manufacturers.

On March 13, 2024, the House had moved a motion to investigate the arbitrary increase in cement prices and constituted a joint committee to probe the matter.

However, the five cement manufacturers failed to appear before the committee or send representatives to make their submissions.
Gbefwi stressed that the House and National Assembly have not received any court order restraining them from inviting individuals or organizations for investigation.
