Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has set up a panel of inquiry to investigate the administrations of previous governors, including his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
The announcement came shortly after Dagogo Iboroma was sworn in as the new Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice.
Fubara tasked the newly appointed attorney-general with probing the affairs of former governors, adding that the decision was non-negotiable.
He said:

“We are appointing you at this critical time because you have a significant task ahead. We will be setting up a judicial panel of inquiry to investigate the governance affairs of previous administrations. Prepare yourself, as I will not reverse this decision.”

Fubara’s political rise was facilitated by Wike, who supported his candidacy for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship ticket and subsequent election victory in 2023.
However, their relationship has deteriorated, with each using their allies in the state parliament to criticize the other, even attempting to impeach Fubara.
It is believed that move may exacerbate the existing tensions between the two politicians.
As a loyal PDP member, Wike secured an appointment in President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), maintaining his political influence after completing his two-term governorship tenure in May 2023.
With the loss of governorship immunity, Wike may face prosecution if the panel of inquiry finds evidence of financial misconduct during his administration.
