Group Petitions ICPC to Investigate El-Rufai over N423bn Fraud

The Kaduna Citizens Watch for Good Governance has filed a petition with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate former Governor Nasir El-Rufai for alleged N423 billion fraud.

The group is seeking El-Rufai’s prosecution for misappropriation of funds, following a report by the Kaduna State House of Assembly that indicted him and his appointees for loan misuse and embezzlement.

“We have absolute confidence in the capacity and determination of the anti-graft agencies to combat corruption in Nigeria,” said Victor Duniya, chairman of the group.

“Holding the former governor and those who pillaged the treasury and shortchanged people’s interests accountable will deter other elected and appointed public officials from mindless looting of the public treasury with impunity.”

This development comes after El-Rufai filed a lawsuit against the Assembly and the state government, seeking to overturn the report’s findings.

The group had previously protested at the Kaduna State Government House, urging Governor Uba Sani to invite anti-graft agencies to arrest his predecessor.

The ICPC petition is the latest in a series of efforts to hold El-Rufai accountable for his alleged financial misdeeds. The group has also filed a similar petition with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in Abuja.
