The members of the Senate house have expressed concerns and disappointment over the delay of the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano gas pipeline project.

The project, which costs $2.8 billion was to be handled by Brentex CPP Limited- the local firm was urged on Tuesday by the Senate, chaired by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. to quicken the project, adding that the Senate would not tolerate any excuse for the delay.

While responding, the company’s chairman, Sani Abubakar that part of the delay came from  the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited attempting to de-scope the $1.27bn station component of the contract.

Abubakar said,

“The NNPCL has informed us that they are de-scoping the $1.27 billion station TGS component of the contract.

We have been in discussions with them for the past 18 months. The delay in executing the contract is not our fault but the NNPCL’s.”

While responding, Akpoti-Uduaghan noted that NNPCL considered de-scoping she to the dissatisfaction with Brentex’s pace of work.

She remarked,

“Let us be honest; NNPCL is considering de-scoping because they are not satisfied with the pace of work.

“The project was supposed to be completed in 2022 but was extended to 2023 and now to May 2025. The stations are under your control, and the delay is on your part.”

The senator instructed Brentex to submit all correspondence between them and NNPCL
