A building under construction in Lagos has collapsed, killing three workers and injuring at least two others.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the incident on Thursday, July 25th, 2024. The collapse occurred at around 3:49 am at No. 13, Wilson Mba Street, Arowojobe Estate, in the Maryland area of Lagos.
LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, stated, “The agency received a distress call regarding a collapsed building at the above address.

This prompted the immediate activation of the agency’s response team to the scene of the incident.”
Search and rescue operations began immediately, with emergency services recovering the bodies of three deceased adult males. Two other adult male workers were rescued alive, while a sixth worker was initially trapped under the rubble but has since been extricated.

“All six men were site workers,” Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu explained. “The rescued workers are receiving pre-hospital care on location, while the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit has been contacted for the remains of the three fatalities.”
LASEMA is working alongside the Lagos State Fire Service and the Nigeria Police Force at the scene. An excavator has been deployed to expedite the search and rescue efforts.
