The Spokesman of the House of Representatives, Philip Agbese, has defended the withdrawn Counter Subversion Bill, stating that it was intended to protect every Nigerian.

Agbese explained that the bill was not meant to suppress citizens’ freedom or muzzle freedom of speech.

In an interview on AIT Kakaki, Agbese responded to criticisms from Sam Amadi, stating that the bill’s sponsor, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, is a pro-people and pro-masses leader who believes in the rights of citizens.

Agbese emphasized that the bill aimed to protect everyone, not just those in high places.

The Reps spokesman also denied accusations that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has turned authoritarian since taking power in 2015.

He highlighted the Speaker’s decision to withdraw the bill after consultation with stakeholders and mentors, demonstrating the 10th House of Reps’ commitment to listening to citizens.
