APC

Governor Abubakar Bello of Niger State has urged All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwarts to lay down their swords and work together in the run-up to the 2023 elections.

The Governor, who declared himself acting National Chairman of the APC on Monday, made the announcement at a meeting of the ruling party’s state chairs.

“By the time you return, you will have united the party in your various states,” said Governor Bello.

“What we want is a united, unified APC in your various states, because elections are just around the corner, and we hope and pray that by God’s grace, we will have a better result in 2023 than we did in 2019,” Bello charged state party leaders.

He also urged the chairmen to remember those who elected them to office in their respective states, emphasizing that all actions must be guided by the principles of fairness, equity, and justice.

Earlier, Governor Bello presided over a meeting of the APC National Secretariat’s Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee in Abuja. He told reporters after the meeting that he is now the acting chairman of the APC, a position he claims to have held for some time.

His remarks come amid reports that Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has been removed as chairman of the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee.

According to multiple reports, security agents stormed the party’s secretariat ahead of the meeting, but the Niger governor said there is no cause for concern.

“Well, whenever there is a major event, we increase security.” So, today, we had a big event because all the chairmen came with their supporters, and there were a lot of people,” governor Bello said.

So, when there are too many people, you beef up security to maintain law and order.

He, on the other hand, stated that he is unaware of Governor Buni’s whereabouts or his current position in the party.

He claims to have the support of President Muhammadu Buhari and other party leaders. He explained that during the meeting, they discussed the party’s convention, expressing their satisfaction with the work done thus far to make it a success.
