We Haven’t Decided on Zoning Yet – Abia PDP

PDP

The ruling political party in Abia State, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has flatly denied insinuations in some quarters that it had zoned its governorship ticket ahead of the 2023 election, explaining that the party has yet to take a position on that.

The PDP accused “mischief-makers of peddling the baseless rumour” in a communique jointly signed by the state Chairman of the party, Rt. Hon. Asiforo Okere, and Secretary, Mr David Iro, on behalf of the State Exco, following an emergency meeting held at the party Secretariat Umuahia.

Contrary to “fabricated propaganda,” the party stated, “the PDP is still consulting on the matter.”

“Abians and the PDP family, in particular, are urged to disregard unfounded rumours because the state chapter of the party, which is constitutionally saddled with such sole responsibility, is still consulting the party’s stakeholders on the matter,” the PDP said.

The communique went on to say that “the PDP state Exco’s ongoing sensitization and familiarization tours of the state’s 17 LGAs” were part of its consultation with party leaders.

“As soon as the party concludes the consultation, it will make critical decisions for the party’s progress,” the communique continued.

The party stated that it has implicit faith in the maturity of the PDP stakeholders in dealing with political issues.

It urged potential candidates for the Governorship and other political offices to “remain calm and wait until the party takes its stand in line with its vision and mission to promote the party’s unity, peace, stability, and progress.”
