Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea have revealed their desire to strengthen economic cooperation and advance their common interests.

The development was disclosed on Friday by President Obiang Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea in a joint statement with Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, and his counterpart from Equatorial Guinea, Simeon Angue.

Recall that the statement follows a state visit by President Tinubu to Equatorial Guinea from August 14 to 16, where he led a high-level delegation to strengthen relations between the two countries.

Tinubu’s visit aimed to explore areas of cooperation, partnership, and economic growth, as well as security and stability in Africa.

Also, they committed to holding the Sixth Joint Cooperation Commission to sign additional bilateral agreements and monitor the implementation of existing ones.

Both leaders lamented over insecurity and instability in Africa and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening mechanisms to prevent foreign interference.

They condemned terrorism and piracy and agreed to work together to address these threats.

Furthermore, they reiterated their support for the United Nations (UN) 2030 Agenda and the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and called for an African Permanent Seat in the UN Security Council.
