A young Nigerian boy, Jacob Elijah Kelechi, who made headlines with his outstanding WAEC results, has tragically lost his life. Elijah’s older brother, Jacob Joseph John, announced the sad news on Facebook, revealing that Elijah drowned in the Imo River in Abia State on July 12.

According to John, Elijah and four others were returning from the river when they encountered military personnel involved in anti-bunkering operations, causing panic among the group. While some managed to swim to safety, Elijah, who couldn’t swim, tragically drowned.
John recounted the events of that fateful day, saying, “They entered a boat, and as they were coming back from the river, they saw military people. They were scared, and those who knew how to swim were diving inside the water. Elijah, who didn’t know how to swim, dived into the river with fear, and that was all.”
Elijah’s remarkable WAEC results had gone viral shortly before his death, making his passing even more heartbreaking. His family and friends are still grieving the loss of this young prodigy.
