Super Eagles caretaker coach Augustine Eguavoen has made it clear that he did not seek or lobby for his recent appointment as the interim coach of Nigeria’s national team. In a statement through the official Super Eagles channels, Eguavoen emphasized that his new role is a result of divine favor rather than personal ambition.

As the Technical Director of the Nigerian Football Federation, Augustine Eguavoen explained that it was his duty to step in when called upon by the Federation.

He expressed that when the Federation’s leadership decided he was the right person to handle the current situation, he accepted the responsibility without hesitation.

Eguavoen stressed that his appointment was not something he actively pursued. “I didn’t ask for this; I didn’t lobby for this, I didn’t apply for this; it is God’s favor,” he said, underscoring his belief that the opportunity was granted to him by a higher power.

Eguavoen is set to lead the Super Eagles in their upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Benin Republic and Rwanda this month.
