A building collapse has struck Benin City, Edo State, trapping several students of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) beneath the rubble.
Reports indicated that the incident occurred on Ekhator Street, Ekosodin, a popular student area, during a heavy downpour on Saturday morning.
Eyewitnesses reported that a swift response from the university’s rescue team ensured the extraction of some trapped occupants, but several students suffered severe injuries and were rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

It was also revealed that rescue efforts are ongoing, with the Dean of Students from UNIBEN currently at the scene, coordinating the operation alongside the university team.

A student told newsmen:
“The rescue team is still searching for one victim who remains trapped inside the rubble. It was reported that the victim called from inside the building, pleading for help, and efforts are ongoing to locate and rescue them.”
