The Edo State governorship election has taken a dramatic turn as the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) engage in a war of words over allegations of election rigging.

The PDP has accused former Governor Adams Oshiomhole of plotting to rig the election in his hometown of Iyamho, while the APC has denied the allegations and accused the PDP of hallucinations.

The PDP’s State Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, alleged that Oshiomhole had concluded plans to engage the Commander of Mopol 60 and his men to provide a shield in polling units around his home in Iyamho, allowing him and his supporters to thumbprint ballot papers for the APC.

Nehikhare also claimed that the state government had uncovered massive production of masks and police uniforms by APC agents to disrupt voting processes in units and wards where they knew they stood no chance of victory.

Responding to the allegations, the Director of Publicity for the Edo APC Governorship Campaign Council, Orobosa Omo-Ojo, described the PDP and its governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo, as “suffering from horrific hallucinations.”

Omo-Ojo accused the PDP of exhibiting dangerous symptoms of hallucination, which had led to perceptions of having seen, heard, touched, tasted, or smelled things that were haunting them.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed calls for the redeployment of the Edo State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Anugbum Onuoha, ahead of the governorship election.

INEC assured that the commission would provide a level playing field and not give any advantage to one political party or candidate over the other.
