A man identified as Patrick Akpan, has been arraigned before the Lagos Magistrates’ Court in Yaba for allegedly beating his 3-years-old daughter to death on December 27, 2020.

Akpan, a 35-years-old security guard, was charged for manslaughter.

The prosecution counsel, ASP Thomas Nurudeen, told the court that Akpan committed the offence in Jakande Estate, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos state.

He added that Akpan beat up his daughter with a belt for messing up the house, the daughter had died in her mother’s arm while being taken to the hospital.

According to ASP Nurudeen, the offence contravened the provisions of Section 224 and is punishable under section 229 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State (2015) Revised.

Presiding over the case, Chief Magistrate P.E Nwaka refused the plea for Akpan in want of jurisdiction as he ordered that the case file be duplicated and a copy sent o the Lagos Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.
