Sowore Rejects Coalition with Peter Obi, Labels Him ‘Non-Performer’

Sowore Rejects Coalition with Peter Obi, Labels Him ‘Non-Performer’ | Daily Report Nigeria

Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2023 election, has strongly rejected the idea of forming a coalition with Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate.

Sowore, who has been running for president long before Obi became a significant political figure, criticized Obi as no different from other politicians he deems corrupt and non-performing.

He made these remarks during a recent appearance on the Honest Bunch Podcast, emphasizing that he could never ally with someone he views as underperforming in public office.

Sowore, who has consistently presented himself as an anti-establishment candidate, dismissed the growing popularity of Obi, attributing it largely to the former Anambra State governor’s effective public relations rather than substantial achievements in governance.

“Before you discovered Peter Obi, I was already running for President. All these shouts about Peter Obi… He just knows how to package. Anyone can do it,” Sowore stated, underscoring that his political journey predates Obi’s rise to prominence.

The AAC candidate also made it clear that his political principles would never allow him to join forces with someone he believes has failed to make a meaningful impact in governance. He cited Obi’s tenure as Vice President under Atiku Abubakar as further proof of his unsuitability for a coalition.

“If I join [form a coalition with] Peter Obi, I will be going against what I have always stood for. I will never support a Nigerian leader who has held any political office before and whom I consider non-performing,” Sowore remarked.

He also drew comparisons between Obi and Atiku, the PDP presidential candidate in the 2019 elections, stating, “It’s the same reason I would never have joined hands with Atiku. And the Peter Obi you are talking about was Vice Presidential candidate to Atiku when I was presidential candidate in 2019.”

Sowore’s strong stance on the matter further emphasizes his belief that Nigerian politics needs a drastic overhaul, rather than a mere shifting of the same politicians in and out of power.

“There is no lesser evil in my book. If you are evil, you are evil. If you are good, you are good. I have a general disdain for non-performance,” he added.
