  • Lagos teacher, Stella Nwadigo, has been remanded in prison for slapping a 3-year-old pupil, Abayomi Micheal, at Christ-Mitots International School in Ikorodu.

  •  Nwadigo pleaded not guilty to the charges read to her at the Ogba Magistrate Court, where she was arraigned on Thursday.

  • Her defence counsel applied for bail, which was set at N200,000 with two verifiable sureties.

Stella Nwadigo, a teacher arrested for physically assaulting a three-year-old pupil at Christ-Mitots International School in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State, appeared before Magistrate M.O. Kusanu at the Ogba Magistrate Court on Thursday.

Nwadigo, who was apprehended after a video surfaced online showing her repeatedly slapping the young child, Abayomi Micheal, reportedly pleaded not guilty to the charges read to her.

According to the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, “Following the ongoing viral case of child abuse, all concerned parties appeared today, 9th January 2024, at the Ogba Magistrate Court.”

The agency added that Nwadigo’s defence counsel applied for bail, which was set at N200,000 with two verifiable sureties.

The school’s management has suspended Nwadigo, while Abayomi was hospitalised following the incident.

The case has been adjourned to January 18, 2024, for trial.

Daily Report Nigeria recalls a video which made rounds online a few days ago, showcasing a female teacher assaulting a three-year-old pupil.

Social media users called for an investigation, while noting that it violates all principles of being a teacher.
