The police force in Niger State have arrested a farmer for rape.

Men of the Niger State Police Command have arrested one Umar Mohammed, a 26-year-old man for rape.
According to reports, the suspect was said to have accosted the victim, when she was sent on an errand.
This happened in Mariga Local Government Area of the state.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the command, SP Wasiu Abiodun said the young girl was sent on an errand to a nearby shop, but was boycotted by Umar, who took her to a bush and raped her.
The suspect was subsequently arrested following a complaint at the Bangi Division on January 26, 2025 at about 8:30 pm.

Umar has been arrested and is currently being interrogated, and the suspect has been taken to the General Hospital in Bangi for medical attention.
“He confessed to the crime. He has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution,” the PPRO added.
