Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has shared a personal story about the importance of tough decision-making in leadership.

While hosting Dr. Dayo Israel, the new Chairman of the Board of Management of Federal Medical Centre Idi-Aba, Obasanjo recalled an instance where he sacked his own daughter from his farm for lateness.

Obasanjo stated that his daughter, who was then a university student, was engaged on his farm to gain practical experience during her long vacation.

However, after warning her for lateness on the first day, Obasanjo took action when she repeated the offense the following day.

Obasanjo noted that this decision had a profound impact on his employees, saying, “Not surprisingly, this had an indescribable effect on all my employees, saying ‘if Baba could do this to his daughter, who are we?'”

He emphasized that effectiveness in leadership requires making tough decisions, stating, “If you’re doing a job and you’re not stepping on toes, then you’re not effective.”

Obasanjo advised Israel to be prepared to make tough decisions and be “just, fair, and humane” in his decision-making.

He stressed that leadership is not about popularity, but about achieving results.

Governor of Cross River State, Benedict Ayade has again disciplined civil servants in the state by locking them out of their offices for arriving late for the second time in two days.

Earlier, some defaults were locked out of the Governor’s office.
