Tinubu Presidency Hits Back at Obasanjo Over Claims of Lack of Planning | Daily Report Nigeria

The presidency has launched a robust response to former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s recent comments, asserting that President Bola Tinubu is undertaking critical economic reforms that Obasanjo failed to implement during his tenure.

The remarks come in the wake of Obasanjo’s criticism of Tinubu, suggesting he assumed office without a clear plan.

Temitope Ajayi, Senior Special Assistant to President Tinubu on Media and Publicity, stated that Obasanjo’s previous reluctance to address significant economic issues, such as fuel subsidy removal, contrasts sharply with Tinubu’s decisive actions.

The presidency accused Obasanjo of “chickening out” when it mattered most and failing to push through essential reforms.

“A video of former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s interview with News Central Television has been trending,” Ajayi noted.

“While he claims Nigeria has a president without a plan, it is President Tinubu who is bravely implementing bold reforms that Obasanjo initiated but abandoned.”

Ajayi emphasized that while Obasanjo struggled with opposition from labor groups, Tinubu has taken on the challenge of deregulating the oil sector, a critical policy change that has eluded previous administrations.

He pointed out that Obasanjo’s presidency was marked by hesitation, stating, “Twenty years after Obasanjo failed to implement complete downstream deregulation, President Bola Tinubu had the courage of his conviction to implement the policy.”

The statement further criticized Obasanjo’s self-perception as the sole savior of Nigeria, urging him to acknowledge the progress made under Tinubu’s leadership.

Ajayi highlighted the continuity of policies aimed at economic revitalization, including initiatives to expand gas infrastructure and support for youth education.

The presidency firmly rejected claims of a lack of planning, asserting that Tinubu entered office with the “Renewed Hope Agenda” and is faithfully executing its objectives.
