In a crucial FIFA World Cup qualifying showdown, Nigeria’s Super Eagles are gearing up to take on Rwanda’s Amavubi, now under the fresh guidance of head coach Eric Chelle.

Appointed in January 2025, Chelle is on a mission to breathe new life into Nigeria’s campaign, as the team currently sits fifth in their group and desperately needs a win to improve their chances.

Strategic Formation and Starting Lineup

For his debut match, Coach Chelle has opted for a 4-4-2 formation.

Chippa United’s Stanley Nwabali will be guarding the goal, while the defense is made up of Ola Aina, William Troost-Ekong, Calvin Bassey, and Bright Osayi-Samuel.

In the midfield, Wilfred Ndidi and Alex Iwobi will be pulling the strings, with Samuel Chukwueze and Moses Simon providing width on the flanks.

Up front, the attacking pair consists of Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen.

Bench Strength and Tactical Flexibility

The Super Eagles’ bench is packed with talent, featuring Obasogie, Bankole, Ogbu, Onyemaechi, Torunarigha, Yusuf, Onyedika, Aribo, Papa Daniel, Sadiq, Akorodare, and Boniface.

This diverse selection gives Coach Chelle plenty of options for making tactical changes as the game unfolds.

Mission to Revive World Cup Aspirations

With just three points from four matches, Nigeria’s journey to the 2026 World Cup is proving to be quite the uphill battle.

The team is trailing behind Rwanda, South Africa, and Benin by four points, making the upcoming matches against Rwanda and Zimbabwe absolutely crucial.

Coach Chelle’s leadership and strategic mindset will be key as the Super Eagles aim to secure their place in the tournament.

The clash with Rwanda is more than just another game; it’s a pivotal moment in the Super Eagles’ World Cup quest.

The team is determined to rise to the occasion and show their fighting spirit on the path to qualification.
