Nigerian football sensation Victor Osimhen has etched his name in history by overtaking and surpassing Segun Odegbami on Nigeria’s all-time goal-scoring list.

The talented striker hit this impressive milestone during a vital 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Rwanda, scoring 2 goals to hit his 25th international goal.

In the heat of the World Cup qualifying match, Osimhen showcased his sharp finishing skills by converting a well-placed free kick from Ademola Lookman at the far post to open the scoring in the match.

The Napoli striker added to Nigeria’s lead just before halftime, scoring his second goal of the match and putting them up 2-0 at the break.

These goals not only gave Nigeria the lead but also propelled the Galatasaray forward to second place on the country’s all-time scoring chart, bringing him closer to the legendary Rashidi Yekini’s record of 37 international goals.

Osimhen’s Rapid Rise and Consistency for Nigeria

This incredible achievement came in Osimhen’s 39th appearance for the Super Eagles, marking his debut in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Prior to surpassing Odegbami, the 26-year-old had matched his record during a 2025 AFCON qualifier against Benin Republic, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

With this latest milestone, Osimhen now stands as the second-highest goal scorer in Nigerian football history, reinforcing his status as a pivotal player in the nation’s offense.

A Dominant Force in Club Football and International Competitions

Beyond his impressive performances for Nigeria, Osimhen has been on fire at the club level.

The Super Eagles’ star has scored 20 goals and provided four assists in 20 Super Lig matches for Galatasaray, who are currently leading the league.

In total, he has racked up 27 goals and five assists in 30 appearances across all competitions, showcasing his remarkable efficiency in front of goal.

Osimhen’s Legacy as Nigeria’s Deadliest Striker Keeps Getting Stronger

With his two goals against Rwanda, Osimhen has now secured the second spot on Nigeria’s all-time goal-scoring list, bumping Odegbami down to third.

His steady performances for both his club and the national team only solidify his status as Nigeria’s most dangerous striker.

As he continues to shatter records, football fans are on the edge of their seats, wondering if Osimhen will eventually surpass Yekini’s impressive 37-goal record and claim the title of Nigeria’s greatest goal scorer ever.
