The Black and Blues (Atalanta) turned down two offers from the Serie ‘A’ club – €40m first, then €45m with add-ons and demanded nothing short of €50m.
After more than a month of failed talks, Inter walked away, SportMediaset revealed.
The saga escalated when the Super Eagles’ forward demanded a transfer and skipped training for over a week.
Transfer expert Luca Cerchione confirmed the Serie A champions have lined up a €52m proposal, an amount Atalanta would accept.
The big question is whether Napoli can convince Lookman, who reportedly prefers Inter, to change course.
With Inter stepping aside, the Nerazzurri will redirect their funds toward a defender and a holding midfielder.
Udinese’s Oumar Solet has already emerged as a top target.
Meanwhile, Atalanta coach Ivan Juric admitted losing Lookman would be a huge blow after recent exits.
“We lost players who provided 80–90% of our goals, and it won’t be easy to replace them,” – Juric said.
Now, Napoli’s official proposal and Ademola Lookman’s eventual transfer destination will determine the outcome of the transfer race.
