  • GTBank has begun deducting the ₦6.98 USSD transaction fee from customers’ airtime balances instead of their bank accounts, effective June 18, 2025.
  • The change follows a directive from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) in collaboration with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to resolve disputes between telecoms and banks.
  • GTBank joins other financial institutions in implementing the revised billing model, reflecting a major shift in Nigeria’s digital banking framework.

 

Guaranty Trust Bank has announced a change in how customers will be billed for USSD banking transactions, aligning with a new industry-wide directive.

In a notice sent to its users, the bank revealed that starting today, June 18, 2025, the ₦6.98 fee for USSD transactions will no longer be deducted from customers’ bank accounts but from their airtime balances.

“Dear Customer, please be informed that effective 18 June 2025, the N6.98 USSD fee will be deducted from your airtime balance, no longer from your bank account. Thank you,” the message read.

The change follows a directive from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), issued in partnership with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), aimed at resolving long-standing disputes between telecom operators and financial institutions over unpaid USSD service fees.

With this adjustment, GTBank joins other banks in adopting the updated billing structure, marking a significant shift in Nigeria’s digital banking landscape.

Derek Dixon, an actor known for his role on Tyler Perry’s BET drama The Oval, has filed a lawsuit accusing Perry of using his industry influence to sexually harass, assault, and retaliate against him over several years.

Filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, the lawsuit seeks at least $260 million in damages and claims Perry took advantage of his power in the entertainment industry to manipulate and silence Dixon.
