New House spokesperson appointed after Berger’s suspension
The Benue State House of Assembly has suspended four members for six months over an alleged attempt to impeach Speaker Hon Aondona Dajoh during a failed plot on Thursday night.
Those suspended are Hon Alfred Berger of Makurdi North, Hon Terna Shimawua of Kian, Hon Cyril Ekong of Obi, and Hon James Umoru of Apa State Constituency.
The Majority Leader, Hon Saater Tiseer, moved a motion of urgent importance accusing the lawmakers of attempting to unsettle the Assembly with what he described as a needless crisis.
Following the motion, the Speaker directed the Sergeant-at-Arms to escort the affected members out of the chamber.
In the aftermath, Hon Audu Elias was appointed as the new spokesperson of the Assembly, replacing Hon Berger who previously held the position.
