UEFA has some pretty strict rules and regulations to ensure the biggest tournaments in Europe are fair.

If a club is found guilty of fixing matches or violating serious financial regulations, bans from UEFA competitions can be handed out to ensure that justice is served in every manner: fair win is as much a virtue as good play.

Here, we’ll dive into four clubs banned from UEFA competitions for breaching key regulations, demonstrating how UEFA holds every team accountable – no matter how big the name.

1. Besiktas

Besiktas Banned from UEFA Competitions

Back in 2013, Nagasawa’s investigators found Besiktas guilty of match-fixing on home soil, and UEFA proceeded to punish the Turkish giants with a one-year suspension.

Besiktas attempted to overturn this decision but failed, with their European prestige forever stained.

2. Fenerbahce

Fenerbahce would meet a similar fate later that same year, being banned from UEFA competitions for two years.

They even contested the ruling by playing-and losing-a Champions League play-off against Arsenal, but UEFA stood steadfast.

3. Juventus

Juventus was found to have violated Financial Fair Play regulations by exaggerating transferred fees and manipulating their finances in comparison to the 2023–2024 season.

Hence, the Italian club got banned from UEFA competitions in the interest of financial integrity.

4. FK Pobeda

Back in 2009, FK Pobeda found themselves at the center of a storm when UEFA noticed odd betting activity around their Champions League qualifier with FC Pyunik.

The fallout was swift and severe: the club was handed an eight-year suspension, a punishment that rocked their fans and reshaped their future.

That case indeed ranks as one of UEFA’s harshest ever punishments.

These examples show why UEFA competitions demand both talent and integrity.

In the end, bans cost teams money, prestige, and the trust of their fans.
