  • 96,838 candidates to retake exam after missing main sessions

  • Over 100 CBT centres suspended for fraud, malpractice

  • Security agencies prosecute JAMB staff, syndicates nationwide

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has fixed Saturday, June 28, 2025, for a nationwide mop-up Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to accommodate 96,838 candidates who missed earlier test sessions due to biometric failures, technical hitches, or absence.

In a statement issued on Sunday, JAMB Spokesperson Dr Fabian Benjamin revealed that the affected candidates include 91,742 absentees from the main and resit examinations as well as 5,096 others affected by verification and system errors.

“This examination will accommodate the 5,096 spill-over candidates and those who failed biometric verification during the main exercise,” Benjamin said.

He added that exam slips will be available for printing from Monday, June 23, and warned that candidates scheduled for the 8:00 a.m. session must arrive early to avoid being shut out.

JAMB also announced the suspension and delisting of 113 CBT centres across the country for technical infractions and aiding examination malpractice.

“A large number of CBT centres implicated for sharp practices in the ongoing security investigation are being suspended,” the Board said. “Those found culpable would be delisted and prosecuted.”

The centres reportedly committed offences during the mock, main, and resit examinations, including manipulation of systems, impersonation, and violation of standard protocols.

The Board acknowledged the contribution of the State Security Service (SSS), Nigeria Police Force (NPF), and NSCDC, whose joint operation led to the arrest of several syndicates, including JAMB officials, professional exam writers, school proprietors, and tutorial centre collaborators.

“Tens of culprits… including few JAMB officials, professional examination takers, and syndicates of some school proprietors and tutorial centres have been apprehended,” JAMB stated.

The Board maintained its zero-tolerance policy for examination fraud and warned that any CBT centre or candidate caught cheating will face full legal prosecution.
