Joshua Osaigbovo, 31, was arrested by Edo police for the death of 21-year-old Osato Edogiaweria, who had been declared missing in April.
The suspect confessed to burying her in a shallow grave near his residence in Iyanomon community after she died during a fight.
Police recovered the decomposing body and confirmed that Osaigbovo will be charged to court after investigations are concluded.

The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 31-year-old man, Joshua Osaigbovo, in connection with the death of 21-year-old Osato Edogiaweria, whose decomposing remains were found in a shallow grave.

This development was made known in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Moses Yamu, via X.com.

According to Yamu, a missing person report was filed on April 25, 2025, by the victim’s mother, Mrs Ojo.

The statement read, “Following a case of a missing person reported on April 25, 2025, at Aduwawa Division, by Mrs Ojo, that her daughter, Osato Festus Edogiaweria, 21 years, left home on April 20, 2025, in the company of her friend and has not been heard from since then.”

The case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, and after a detailed investigation by operatives of the Family Unit, Osaigbovo was apprehended on June 18.

“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to having invited the said Osato Festus (now deceased) to his residence on April 27, 2025, and in the course of their stay, they had an altercation that led to a fight where the deceased fell, hit her head on the ground and died,” the statement continued.

The suspect further admitted that he transported the victim’s body in a wheelbarrow to a nearby bush, where he dug a shallow grave and buried her just a few metres from his home in the Iyanomon community, Ikpoba-Okha LGA.

He later led operatives to the exact burial site.

The police added that the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.

The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the release of Mr. Daniel Onyishi, the State Director of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), who was abducted on June 12 during the Democracy Day public holiday.

Onyishi was reportedly kidnapped in the early hours of the day along Oby Okoli Road near Winners Chapel in Awka.
