The match at the Infinity Arena ended 11-8, 11-5, 11-13, 11-7 in favour of the world number 18.

Aruna started slowly and dropped the first two sets, but he fought back to take the third 13-11.

Franziska regained control in the fourth and closed out the match when it mattered.

Quadri Aruna exits WTT Champions Macao

Earlier in the week, Quadri Aruna delivered one of his best performances in months, sweeping China’s Huang Youzheng 11-3, 11-8, 11-8 in the first round.

That solid showing hinted at a return to form after a rough patch on the World Table Tennis circuit.

Before Macao, Aruna had lost five of six matches, yet his win over Huang proved he still has bite and belief.

Franziska, meanwhile, brought momentum into the tie after a dramatic five-game victory over sixth seed Xiang Peng, and he showed calm under pressure on Friday.

This defeat extends Aruna’s wait for a first win over Franziska and denies him a likely quarter-final date with fourth seed Hugo Calderano.

Still, his third-set fight and earlier straight-games win give him a base to rebuild confidence quickly.

The WTT Champions Macao carries an $800,000 purse and attracts the sport’s prominent names.

The competition has already produced shocks and early exits, underlining how open the draw has become.
