The Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos has officially renamed the popular Charly Boy Bus Stop in honour of indigenous rapper and music executive, Olamide Adedeji, popularly known as Baddo.

The announcement was made by the Chairman of Bariga LCDA, Kolade Alabi David, on Friday during the commissioning of several new infrastructure projects in the area.

According to him, the move is part of the council’s efforts to celebrate local icons who have contributed significantly to music and culture.

“Ajidagan Street will now be called Olamide Adedeji Baddo Street. That means Charly Boy bus stop will now be called Baddo Bus-Stop, no more Charly Boy,” Alabi declared.

The bus stop was previously named after veteran entertainer and activist Charles Oputa, famously known as Charly Boy.

In addition to Olamide, the council also honoured other legendary Nigerian musicians. Ilaje Road has been renamed after juju music maestro King Sunny Ade, while Ifeanyi Street now bears the name of afro-pop star 9ice, best known for his hit track Gongo Aso.

Community Road in Akoka has been renamed Babajide Sanwo-Olu Road, Bariga Road now becomes Bola Ahmed Tinubu Road, and Ayodele Street has been renamed Tony Tetuila Street — in recognition of the popular singer.

These changes mark a cultural tribute to Nigerian music and leadership figures who have roots in or links to the Bariga area.
