Police officers from the Ekpan Division in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State have arrested an auxiliary nurse, identified as Mrs. Odiase Ibhade Stella, in connection with the death of a 21-year-old woman, Miss Elizabeth Oyibode.
The arrest came after allegations surfaced that the nurse administered medication to the young woman, which ultimately left her paralyzed and led to her death at the Central Hospital, Warri, three days ago.
Following the incident, law enforcement authorities also sealed off Stella’s chemist shop, located near New Era School, off Jakpa Road.

National Coordinator of the Initiative For Social Rights Concerns And Advancement (ISRCA), also known as ‘No Justice, No Peace,’ Comrade Derrick Oritsematosan Agberen, confirmed the development and vowed to ensure that justice is served to deter similar acts of medical negligence in the future.
“We intercepted an unregistered (suspected) nurse who had administered medications with drips in her chemist shop which led to the death of late Miss Elizabeth Oyibode. The medication resulted in paralysis of her brain, body, affecting her ability to speak or interact with anyone,” Agberen stated.
He credited CSP Shaba Aliyu, the Divisional Police Officer of the Ekpan Division, for his prompt response to the petition filed by the group.
According to Agberen, the victim’s fiancé, Mr. Jonathan Okuma, had initially consulted the nurse regarding some unusual symptoms. The nurse allegedly claimed he had a bacterial infection and suggested that his fiancée, Elizabeth, should also undergo treatment since they were cohabiting and had a child together.
“During the period they started the treatment, the suspected nurse also claimed that late Miss Elizabeth was having typhoid and malaria symptoms and she also insisted on prescribing medications and treatment at the same time. Mr. Jonathan had stopped her, insisting that they should be done with the infection treatment before administering other medication,” he explained.
Agberen further alleged that the nurse later demanded money for diagnostic tests but instead used the funds to continue administering unauthorized treatment. When Mr. Okuma returned from work, he found his fiancée on a drip in the chemist shop—a situation that reportedly triggered complications.
“This sad ordeal led to series of complications on Miss Elizabeth, as the medicines administered by the suspected nurse resulted in paralysis of the brain and body,” he added.
Tragically, Miss Oyibode died days later at Warri Central Hospital. Police have since launched a full investigation, while ISRCA has pledged to follow the case closely to ensure accountability.
