BREAKING: Real Madrid Throw Resurgent Chelsea Out of UEFA Champions League

Real Madrid on Wednesday threw hard fighting Chelsea out of the UEFA Champions League with a 4-3 score line on aggregate, after extra time.

The Blues, who are defending champions of football’s most lucrative club competition were obviously the better team of the night after a sloppy display in the first leg.

A Karim Benzema hat-trick gave the home team a 3-1 lead in the first leg at Stamford Bridge.

However, Thomas Tuchel’s side set the game on tempo from the first minute.

Mason Mount gave Chelsea a first-half lead after firing into Thibout Cortouis’ bottom right from inside the box.

Timo Werner played the English midfielder on goal following a series of exchange of passes.

The Blues resumed the second half with renewed vigour in search for a second goal.

Mason Mount turned provider this time with Antonio Rudiger heading into the net six minute after the restart from a corner kick.

Chelsea had a Marcos Alonso goal disallowed for handball following a VAR review midway into the second half.

However, Werner exhibited great composure, putting two Madrid defenders on the floor before firing past Cortouis for Chelsea’s third on the 75th minute.

Substitute Rodrygo pulled one back for the home team from a Luka Modric’s cross on 80th minute to drag the game to extra time.

Madrid captain Karim Benzema needed just six minutes into extra time to secure a win for Los Blancos.

Chelsea were left to rue several missed chances late in the second half of normal time and the whole of extra time.
