Third-place teams receive $300,000; fourth place and bottom teams in five-team groups each take $200,000.

“This increase in prize money will support the development of locally based players and help strengthen the global competitiveness of African football,” – CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe said.

He added that CHAN also boosts interest from fans, sponsors and broadcasters.

Meanwhile, the 2024 edition – CAF African Nations Championship Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda 2024 – runs from August 2 to 30, 2025.

The tournament will have three hosts for the first time, including Senegal, the reigning champions, past winners Morocco and DR Congo, and contenders such as Nigeria, Algeria, Guinea and Zambia.

Nigeria returns after missing the last edition, having beaten Ghana 3–1 on aggregate to qualify.

Coach Eric Chelle’s side aims to improve on their 2018 runners-up finish and lift the CHAN trophy for the first time.
